Spring blooms and a little friend
Stepping Out
I’m here because 1) I have something to say and 2) I love this community.
I’ve been blogging on Medium for a few years after taking the advice of an avid blogger who said: write as if noone will read it, share, or like it. That was all the motivation I needed. Immediately my posts were shared by my circle of family, church, social media friends, neighbors and their kids.
Incredibly, the messages began to pour in: Thank you, I thought I was the only one who thought that, you say what I wish I could say out loud, and you have no idea how I needed this.
And that was all I needed: to know that I can encourage the weary with a word in season, give joy, and share a perspective that doesn’t align with the status quo of the community that discipled me.
I am a writer, a conservationist, a deconstructed Christian, a volleyball coach, mom, Nana, aunt, and an advocate for survivors of sexual violence. I am pro all-of-life. I have co-founded, served as the director with many hats at a nonprofit that helped survivors of human trafficking. Now I do coalition work and focus on systems-level change. My writing strongly reflects my passion for advocacy, pushing back at harmful rhetoric and cultural myths, my friends and family, Jesus, and all things green and growing.
